Diversity & Inclusion
Our members come from the humanities, science, engineering, medicine, and business. We come from many parts of the world including Australia-Pacific, Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, and North America. Bringing so many different perspectives together helps us break down barriers between disciplines and bridge silos of knowledge.
AI is increasingly affecting all aspects of our lives, but the burdens of it disproportionately fall on marginalised groups. At the same time, these marginalised groups are often excluded from the discussions about AI when what we need is the full range of voices contributing to AI ethics discussions. As a group, we therefore value new perspectives from people with diverse backgrounds in terms of their identity, lived experiences, research fields and geographic location. (alternative: As a group, we therefore value diversity and constantly try to expand the range of voices in our group across race, gender, disability status, religion, sexual orientation, age and geography.)
